More rubbish dressed-up as journalism on our ABC South East Radio this week.
Apart from the usual fare of brain-busting trivia, our ABC featured interviews with two of the world’s greatest movers & shakers, the Member for Bega, Andrew Constance, & a previously unheard of spruiker for Telstra.
In its usual way, the
ABC rolled-out the red carpet for
Minister Constance as
he casually unpacked his views on the proposed new
Eurobodalla Regional Hospital & a proposed new
Emergency Services Hub in
Moruya & the
NSW State Government’s latest $10M vote-buying campaign in
Eden.
Andrew finished with his usual flourish, stating that it was important to rejuvenate the bushfire recovery program, which had lost some of its impetus on the back of the Covid2019 pandemic. All very upbeat in the last fortnight before Christmas, courtesy of our ABC.
Of course, our ABC journalist extraordinaire was so taken by the silver tongued Mr Constance, that he completely forgot to ask him anything at all about the latest financial scandal to embroil his department & the NSW Government: the $53.5M purchase of contaminated land near Parramatta from a developer (without the normal benefit of a valuation), who had purchased the land for only $38M some seven months before in November, 2015.
While Mr Constance referred the land transaction to ICAC for investigation, that was more than two years after the matter had been raised in the NSW Parliament & one year after a secret audit of the transaction had been conducted.
It has since been revealed that the remediation cost associated with removing toxic chemicals from the land are likely to exceed $48M, taking the cost to NSW taxpayers to more than $100M for a parcel of land that may be worth as little as $7M.
A nice little earner for someone.
No sooner had
Andrew parted the waters, than our intrepid
ABC journalist was busy waving through the latest piece of
Telstra PR pap trying to convince unsuspecting locals of the huge benefits that will flow from the
5G mobile network just turned-on in good old
Merimbula &
Batemans Bay.
While our ABC South East journalist professed ignorance about 5G, he did pay “lip service” to concerns about the safety of the technology, but it amounted to no more than a facetious comment suggesting that those people who hold such concerns are doubtless busy making “tin foil” caps.
As the BVSRRA
has previously highlighted, concerns about the potential health impacts of the
5G technology have been raised around the world & there has been no independent evidence forthcoming attesting to the safety of exposing people to the technology.
Just another sad joke made by our ABC at the potential expense of the people of Merimbula & Batemans Bay.
No wonder public trust is in the toilet.
